FET Smart Products and Services

FET, guided by the spirit of using innovative technology to solve urban governance and industry pain points, combines core technologies such as "Big, AI, and IoT" (Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, and Internet of Things), cloud computing, and cybersecurity. By leveraging 5G and innovative applications, it drives the transformation of smart cities and industries. FET rapidly extends its experience in building smart cities to all counties and cities in Taiwan, aiming to drive industrial transformation and sustainable development. FET is also a strategic committee member of Go Smart, through which it engages in exchanges with smart city applications worldwide. Additionally, it actively participates in the Smart City Expo held annually in March.

5G Remote Diagnosis Service

Telemedicine Consultation: During the pandemic, the telemedicine diagnosis and treatment platform assisted the outpatients of the medical institutions to see the doctor through video, zero contact, reducing the risk of epidemic infection and the cost of medical treatment for the public to seek medical treatment in the hospital, and protecting the right of the public to seek medical treatment. The platform integrates the service processes of healthcare institutions, supports virtual health insurance card functionality, and integrates payment collection. Users only need to use a mobile app to complete online registration, payment, and video consultation services. In addition to health insurance consultations, the platform also offers diverse self-pay health advisory services, enabling healthcare institutions to provide personalized and efficient digital healthcare services with a human touch. This initiative aligns with the government's goal of expanding home-based emergency care applications by 2023 and utilizing technology to deliver real-time interdisciplinary care and remote patient monitoring (RPM) applications.

Specialist Consultation: In 2023, the expansion of remote healthcare services will continue to be deeply cultivated in New Taipei City, Miaoli County and Pingtung County, extending the reach to remote, mountainous and off-shore of telemedicine applications from east to west and from north to west. Various artificial intelligence-driven innovative healthcare applications will be introduced in specialties such as ophthalmology, otolaryngology, dermatology, cardiology, gastroenterology, neurology, thoracic medicine, and metabolic disorders (diabetes continuous care). The future goal is to extend the coverage to all 15 counties and cities in Taiwan, encompassing 52 health centers and 22 hospitals.

• In the end of 2023, 5G telemedicine reached a total of 40,742 consultations, including 25,606 video consultations and 15,136 remote consultations for rural areas, and is expected to cover 15 counties and cities in the end of 2024 and involving the construction of 52 rural health centers. The estimated social sustainability benefits include reducing the waste of medical costs by NT$550 thousand, reducing patient productivity loss and healthcare costs by NT$8.16 million. 5G emergency medical assistance

5G emergency rescue solution improves the quality of pre-hospital emergency rescue services: Through collaboration with the Taipei City Fire Department, the "5G Cross-Sea Emergency Medical Joint Defense" mechanism has been established to optimize the golden rescue time. Using smart devices and onboard cameras as a first-person perspective, emergency medical technicians equipped with bone conduction noise-canceling earphones can leverage FET's self-developed "5G remote healthcare platform" to instantly transmit high-definition images and information from the ambulance. This enables real-time remote collaboration with advanced paramedic teams, using 5G live video transmission to identify critical patients and provide immediate rescue. This solution enhances the chances of patient survival, helps frontline paramedics strengthen emergency procedures, and improves the success rate of emergency care.

Improve the safety and medical quality of post-hospital transfer of acute and critical patients: We collaborated with the Emergency Department of Cheng Kung University Hospital to launch the "Special Trauma Patient Island-Hopping Strategy" for pre-hospital transportation. The "Pre-hospital Ambulance 5G Intelligent Mobile Emergency Department Multidisciplinary Consultation Platform" has been established to integrate emergency medical information in real-time on the ambulance itself. Patients are transported to the nearest local hospital without being transferred onto a stretcher for immediate emergency treatment. Afterward, they are transferred to a medical center to receive optimal treatment, thereby reducing the time it takes for critically ill patients to reach specialized emergency care hospitals.

• In 2023, the Penghu County Fire Department collaborated with the Taipei City Fire Department to launch the "5G Cross-Sea Emergency Medical Joint Defense" initiative. This initiative aimed to address the lack of medical resources and the distance to hospitals in the outlying islands of Penghu. Additionally, it successfully detected cases of acute myocardial infarction early, enabling seamless surgical procedures for the patients.
• By the end of 2023, the 5G ambulance has successfully completed over 500 cases and achieved a 100% activation rate for remote medical guidance. The satisfaction rate for communication quality is over 90%. The future goal is to expand 5G as a life-saving tool by promoting the "5G Ambulance Donation Public Welfare Program" to various counties and cities in Taiwan, in order to safeguard the lives of the people.
• In 2023, Taiwan's telecommunications industry achieved a significant milestone by winning the Gartner 2023 EOI Award for CSP (Communication Service Provider) Innovation. The industry's innovative application of 5G ambulances was selected as one of the TOP 3 in the Asia-Pacific region, marking a first for the industry.

 

Energy Management System (EMS)

FET acquired the Classroom Air Conditioning Project for primary and secondary schools in nine counties and cities nationwide in 2022, establishing itself as a key player in Taiwan's energy management system. Additionally, the company has implemented smart energy management solutions for corporate customers, contributing to Taiwan's efforts to achieve the 2050 net-zero goal by reducing energy consumption.

In 2023, energy-saving applications were further expanded to include microgrids, which assisted Taiwan Power Company in constructing a microgrid on the outlying island of Wang'an in Penghu (currently in progress). The objective is to achieve a stable and diversified power supply through a decentralized energy management system.

In response to the global ESG trend, FET is also helping customers develop tailored carbon management systems. We are also partnering with startups to offer carbon inventory SaaS services and integrate data with energy management systems.

Key Benefits

• Since the implementation and subsequent expansion of the Classroom Air Conditioning Project in 2022, over 45,000 classrooms in elementary and junior high schools across nine counties and cities in Taiwan have been equipped with air conditioning. These classrooms are managed using the FET Energy Management System.
• By implementing FET's energy management system and utilizing the visualization system, enterprise customers were able to avoid exceeding their energy consumption contracts and received the Energy Efficiency Benchmark Award from the Ministry of Economic Affairs in 2023.

Smart Electricity Meter

Smart meters can automatically transmit electricity usage data, eliminating the need for manual meter reading processes. They can also help control peak electricity demand, contributing to grid balancing. In the event of a power outage, smart meters can instantly send notification messages, improving the efficiency of fault detection and repair processes. In addition to assisting with the setup, FET also performs regular monitoring and management to ensure that the connection quality and data transmission meet the expected targets.

Key Benefits

• In 2023, the Asia-Pacific region merged and added six construction zones, increasing the total number of maintained construction zones to 18. This resulted in a total of 1.58 million smart meter contracts. It is expected that by 2024, a total of 18 distribution regions will be established, resulting in the addition of approximately 360,000 smart meters.

Smart Streetlights and 5G Smart Poles

FET's smart streetlight management solution combines LED lighting technology with its proprietary design brand of streetlight controllers and 4G/NB-IoT communication technology. It enables real-time collection of various data from streetlights and establishes a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to enhance the security of IoT applications.

Combining AI platform with pedestrian big data analysis, in Taipei City, carried out AI smart streetlights verification, able to proactively monitor energy consumption and adjust lighting brightness.

"Smart Pole" is a smart pole that incorporates 5G micro base stations. It is designed to support a range of urban governance applications, including smart lighting, traffic monitoring, and environmental climate detection. This technology aims to expedite the deployment of smart city solutions.

Key Benefits

• The Taoyuan streetlight project completed the installation of 88,666 lamps in 2023, resulting in a total annual energy savings of 59.31 million kilowatt-hours and a total carbon reduction of 29,893 metric tons.

Smart Intersection

FET is dedicated to implementing smart intersection solutions. In the event of a power outage that interrupts the traffic lights at an intersection, a significant number of police forces are dispatched to manage traffic. However, while waiting for the police forces to arrive, the risk of vehicles crossing the intersection increases. Moreover, emergency vehicles like ambulances and fire trucks are unable to provide immediate rescue services due to the paralyzed intersection.

FET is developing a "Battery Swap Continuous Power System" to ensure that crucial road intersections in different counties and cities can maintain normal traffic signal operation even during power outages caused by Taiwan Power Company. This system will greatly enhance the safety of intersection operations during blackouts and minimize the reliance on police assistance during such times.

Key Benefits

• Starting in August 2023, we helped Taipei City establish uninterrupted power supply systems for 187 signalized intersections. By the end of December, there were 159 power outages, with the longest outage lasting 9 hours and 43 minutes. The total duration of power supply interruptions greatly enhanced the safety of operations at critical intersections.
• From November 2023, 16 intersections will be established in Chiayi City. By the end of December, there was one power outage that lasted a total of 2 hours and 13 minutes.

Smart Charging Service

FET has developed its own "Charging Management Platform" and has created "Smart Charging Services" using telecommunications big data. The deployment is determined by factors such as crowd density and tourist attraction to determine the duration of passenger stays, which serves as the basis for expanding the charging infrastructure.

The construction app enables precise control of the entire process, from deployment to installation of charging stations. The "ChargeAnywhere" app consolidates information about charging stations and provides functions such as navigation charging, mobile payment, membership, and customer service. When used in conjunction with the charging management platform, it offers maintenance and operation services, payment integration, and reconciliation system integration. In addition, collaborate with community system operators to create a comprehensive charging service for new and existing parking lots in buildings.

In line with the national development policy for 2023 (Forward-looking Plan 2023-2024), a total of 266 charging stations will be planned and installed for the "Hsinchu City Public Parking Lot Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Project". Active participation in the bidding project for central and local government charging station initiatives in 2024.

• Since 2019, Taichung City has established and maintained over 155 parking lots with 306 charging stations.

5G Enterprise Network Slicing Project

"FET is actively advancing various 5G innovative applications and developing network slicing applications within the 5G architecture. By utilizing 5G network slicing technology, we are able to expedite the deployment of application services that demand reliable and prioritized network resources. These services include communication for disaster relief and emergency response, broadcasting of major events or sports competitions, and immersive user experience applications. This marks a significant milestone in the evolution of 5G technology. "

The 5G network slicing technology enables the flexible allocation of network resources for various service projects, ensuring service quality within a specific area. FET has collaborated with Ericsson to develop the first commercial implementation of 5G Standalone (SA) combined with network slicing in Taiwan, known as the "5G Smart Patrol Car". This is also the world's first smart law enforcement application of 5G SA network slicing. "5G Smart Patrol Car" combines starlight-level night vision camera equipment to capture a width of 2 to 3 lanes. Vehicle identification is completed quickly through 5G transmission and AI license plate recognition. When abnormal vehicles are detected, the patrol car will immediately issue an alert. The images can also be organized to clearly show the vehicle's movement trajectory, effectively aiding in the recovery of stolen vehicles and combating crime, thus enhancing operational efficiency.

• The 2023 New Taipei City WJS Marathon, which took place on March 19, 2023, is the first road race event in Taiwan to be awarded the Gold Label Road Race certification by World Athletics.
• During the event, FET provided network coverage for 33 mobile base stations, spanning a distance of approximately 42 kilometers. The route encompassed Wanli District, Shimen District, and Jinshan District in New Taipei City. To ensure seamless mobile network resources and real-time high-definition streaming for event broadcasting, FET utilized Ericsson's 5G network slicing technology. By independently slicing the network and flexibly allocating resources, FET guaranteed high-speed and smooth network service quality (QoS) for the event broadcasting. This marked the first application of 5G network slicing technology in marathon event broadcasting in Taiwan, achieving a significant milestone in 5G service.

With the advancement and integration of big data, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, FET continues to launch innovative products and services, offering the public a more diverse smart lifestyle. These offerings aim to meet various needs, enhance quality of life, and ensure mobile network security, enabling individuals to enjoy high-speed, lowlatency, and wide-ranging connections in their smart living services.

FET Mobile Circle App

FET leads Taiwan's telecommunications industry by launching the exclusive "FET Mobile Circle" user benefits plan for its users. This plan expands the scope of benefits and rewards to cover convenience stores, transportation, dining, and more, providing exclusive privileges to users. FET has built the "FET Mobile Circle" app with two core principles: "Enhancing User Benefits" and "Carefully Selected User Offers." In addition to traditional methods of categorizing users based on age, gender, and viewing history, this platform truly helps users discover previously unseen content. Since the introduction of generative AI by friDay Video, the number of clicks and views of features facilitated by AI has seen significant growth. In terms of content business, subsidiary Mission International not only continues to foster high-quality local content but also collaborates with Singapore's largest media group,MediaCorp, in December to create highquality Chinese-language content.
